Interview with Defiant

DEFIANT was originally formed 2005 in Pozega, Croatia, by Beretz(guitars, vox) & Kris(guitars). With much musical experience from the past they began writing material with lots of melodies, harmonies and dark lyrics. The main idea from the beginning was to play melodic death metal with Swedish influences. When Bole(bass) and File(drums)joined the band, line-up was finished. Defiant have developed their own and more commercial form of Death metal with groovy rhythms, melodic riffs, well played guitar solos and an aggressive vocal in focus. After lot of concerts and festivals, played with high-energy performance, the band made their debut album”The End of Beginning”in the autumn 2006

1. Would you like to tell us about croatian death metal / underground music scene ?
There is a scene with too many bands, but only 5-6 bands are make the scene, because there is no interest in metal like in other european countries…
2. 2006 to 2010, why it takes a long time to build a new album ?
Well,we have a Promo in 2008,so it’s not a very long time to keep busy our fans to wait our second album in 2010.And there was some changes in the band, because we need very good drummer on this new album so we cancel many gigs this year
so we can go in Studio to record some new songs  in a way that should be….metal.

3. Working on a new recording, could you tell us just little bit about new material ?
There will be some real old school melodies with some new sound of death metal.
4.Defiant call their self, “Croatian metal with swedish style”, tell us your favourite
musician.

Of course,But some old stuff like,At The Gates,In Flames,Dismember,Dark Tranquillity….
5. For selling point, and popularity or some other reason, some of musician or band covering the other band song. What do you think about that ?
Well, they cover for some own reason,if they think that ‘s OK i don’t have to say anything:D
6. If you could tour with one band, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think that could be Metallica or Slayer, because they are the names for themselves today…
7. City to city or world tour. Which one from your live performance you experienced that means much to the band.
World tour is the best, but it’s great to travel city to city of course…:D
8. Any pre-show rituals?
Drink some beers…a lot of beers…and smoke some weed…
9. What’s your opinion abut the music charts now, with the amount of manufactured boy/girl bands that seem to dominate it?
i don’t track this shit …
10. From the beginning until now, what made Defiant still focus on this genre. How does the music make you feel when you’re producing, performing, or listening to it?
It was hard work but we still could produce a nice death metal sound with a nice melodies…we give a high hope to this feelings:D
11.Your message to the metal fans ?
Keep it metal,it’s all you’ve got at the end….

Exclusive Interview With Walls Of Jericho

Walls Of JerichoWalls Of JerichoWalls Of JerichoWalls Of Jericho

Before The Mighty Walls Of Jericho show in Indonesia begins, we try to make an exclusive interview with them. And finally we’ve done.

After the last album “with devils amongst us all” it’s nice to hear you guys back with new EP. How do you feel it ?
We all are very proud of The Redemption EP and are finishing up our new Full length right npw for a summer release which is coming together nicely.

Why it takes so long, to release the new material ?
It’s been a little over a year… we’ve been touring our asses off since May of 2006 and came home December of 2007 supporting with devils. Traditionally bands put out records every 2 years so would say we’re putting out new material in a good time frame.

How’s the tour, is there something makes you amazed for the last 2 year ?
Tour is tour… we’ve done every kind of tour from the big Ozzfest/ Family Values tours to small club tours for the last 2 years and it’s all been great and Amazing.

What is the most you like from the hardcore scene, the crowds, the stage and moshpit ?
I think we love all of the above. Hardcore shows are way more intimate than the bigger meal tour with Barriers and all that crap. we like to be a part of the show and not just be the show.

Back to your EP. I’ve listened to your albums, and now i’m listening to your EP. Redemption. Feels like a “bungy jumping”, From high speed musics to the slow tempo songs. How you describe your EP. Is this somekind of contemplation or “Warming up” before your next album ?
We just wanted to do an acoustic EP with a cool, dark, mellow feel to it. If you listen to ALL our past records we’ve done a song or 2 like the ones on the EP. So we decided to just go for it and do a record with all acoustic stuff.

Does it difficult to change the vocal style. From brute strength angerous vocal, to mellow and Melodic vocal with accoustic instruments ?
No it was cool and it came real easy to write these songs.

It was a big surprise when i’ve heard “House of Rising Sun” played by Walls Of Jericho. I love this song. Tell me how and why this song was included in this EP.
We all Love that song and thought it would be a cool addition to the EP.

What do you think having corey taylor of slipknot/stonesour as your producer ?
Corey’s a good friend and a great person. We had so much fun doing Redemption with him and he really helped Candace sing her ass off on it.I think he was the perfect producer to work with on this project and we re all very happy and greatful for him taking time out of his crazy life to work with us.

Newest album of Walls Of Jericho will be released this summer. Would you like to give a clue about this album ?
It’s gonna be Brutal so hold on to your seats boys and girls.

From the first album, Walls Of Jericho lyrics is far from political issue, Why ?
We decided to talk more about personal issues.

This band, Walls Of Jericho, become an inspiration an influence for many band all over the world, specially with female fronted vocal. What do you think about this ? Does it means something ?
It’s always great to Influence anybody anywhere. It means more to us to hear someone tell us that than anything.

Indonesia, will be your next target, i mean indonesia is on your tour list. How do you know about Indonesia ?
We don’t know much about indonesia but we are eager to come over and see it. I hear it’s a beautiful place.

Message to your Indonesian fans please …
We’ll see everyone in June and we are really looking forward to coming over.
See you in JUNE!!!

Exclusive Interview with Riot Company

Riot Company

Riot Company, punk rock from Hildesheim, Germany. The band founded by Dole and Sascha has been frequenting the stages since 2001. From the very beginning, Riot Company has always been a synonym for uncompromising, fast and yet melodious punk rock. Music from the scene for the scene. The band has been continuously evolving in the past years and has managed to mature into an outstanding live band.
The four band members never ceased to stick to their principles, always refusing to let others influence their music and songs about love and hate, girls and much more!
In the past five years, the band performed at around 100 events in Germany, England, France, Belgium and Austria. Most of the gigs were in smaller clubs but some of them also took place on major stages and festivals.

Couple days ago,I’ve done an interview with Riot Company. They will come to Indonesia. From 7 – 23th March 2008. The tour have a title “Welcome To The Jungle”. This interview done via email. And thanks to the band, specially Dole. It’s a fast reply you know..

1. Is this your first time to go to Indonesia ?

Yes, it’s our first time and we can’t wait for it.

2. Why the Riot Company choose some Indonesia’s city, (Indramayu, Cirebon, Surabaya, Blitar, until Jakarta ?. Because I think there is always a bad bad story about Indonesia out there.

That’s not right. Sure, we know the newspaper-headlines and this stories, but nobody here thinks bad about Indonesia. Some friends of us, who helped us with the tour, have a realy good connection to Indonesia. They are talking always very good about the country, the scene etc,…

3. Don’t you guys afraid of that bad story about our country Indonesia ? (terror, bombing etc)

Bad stories you have everywhere. It doesn’t matter in which country you are. Bombing and terror alarm exists in germany too. We’re are not afraid. We have respect but no fear.

4. What’s your opinion with US travel warning to Indonesia ? Your government did that or not ??

No, our goverment did no travel warning. They say, that there are some danger regions but we don’t go there. I think the americans have a very big terrorism paranoia.

5. Before you come to Indonesia, which is your favourite country ?

We always have realy good shows in the Czech Republic. The people there like us very much. But we also played very good shows all over Europe.

6. Back to basic question, why you choose the name Riot Company ? any history ? and how do you meet each other ?

In the beginning we had another name but we were not happy with it. Than we wrote the song “here comes the riot company” and we thought it could be a good name. We found together under Riot Company in 2001. Dole (vocals, guitar) and Sascha (drums) know each other since they are kids. Hannes (bass) and Silvio (guitar) joined the band in the following years. We are just for friends with the same love: Punkrock!

7. Like another bands around the world. Who’s and what’s the most influenced to you and your music ?

Our sound is influenced by the 80ties UK Punkrock and Oi!-bands like “Cock Sparrer“, “Cockney Rejects“, “Blitz“. But theres also a small Rock n Roll touch in it because I love bands like “Social Distortion“.
But all in all we play OUR kind of music.

8. I have listen to your music, of course from free sample from your official site, and myspace. I think it’s energic , melodic and powerfull songs. How you describe your musics ?

Yeah right. Hard, traditional punkrock with nice melodies.

9. So, what makes you guys different from any of the other punk/hardcore bands out there

Some people say, we are the cutest band on earth 😉
Well, I think we are a very powerfull live band. I hate to practice, I hate the recording studio. But I love to play live! To give the people a good time. That’s the best thing in life.

10. Are politics and revolution, and that sort of thing such a motivating factor in your music ?

Well, the times for revolutions in Europe are long ago. Politics are not important in Riot Company. Everyone of us is political for himself. But it’s no big part in our songs.

11. Tell me through your song writing process

Hehe, most songs I wrote in my bed 🙂 I’m sitting there with my guitar and try some melodies. Than I know how the words have to sound. When we come together in our practice room I show my ideas and we decide whats good enough.

12. Your songs, your lyrics, musics you developed. Is there any messages in it ? the messages you send to your audience and listener. would you like to be listened or “just heard” ? What do you guys wants with your musics ?

I think the most important thing in music is the melody! We sing about life, about things everyone knows, like heartbrakes, problems with the police, and all the stuff. It’s great to hear fans saying to me, that they could find their own feelings in my lyrics. And thats exactly what I want.

13. How has Riot Company evolved as a band since you started?

We constantly getting bigger from year to year. In the first years we were just a small punkrockband but meanwhile we are standing on bigger stages as well.
We met so many people. Idols became friends.

14. Your last album was in 2006, do you have a plan to release a new material this year ?

We will release a triple Split very soon. Clockwork Rebells (Czech Republic), Combat 77 (Germany) and Riot Company. Each band with four songs.

15. Why it takes a long time to this band to create an album ?

I just wrote, I hate to practice. Mostly I got the ideas somewhere else. Under the shower, in the car, …but not when I want to write a song. But I think that it’s enough to release an album all two years.

16. What are the plans of this band for next studio album ?

We have just started to make some plans but nothing concrete.

17. From all of your albums, which one is the best for you ?

I think “Riot Anthems” is the best one. Songs like “Riot City”, A song for us” or “Justice & Liberty” are the best ones we’ve ever made.

18. To the indie bands (punk, hardcore, and all other kind of musics) in this city, what’s your message to them ?

Yeah, hope to see a lot of you on the show, so that we could have a great time together. Feel free to have some beer with us. Keep punkrock allive!!
